When Stephen King's Carrie was published in 1974, its story of a bullied teenage girl with telekinetic powers ended in tragedy. Carrie White spends her life being abused by her fanatically religious mother and tormented by her classmates, until a cruel prank at prom pushes her past her breaking point. By the time the night is over, most of Chamberlain is destroyed, and Carrie is dead.
