Windows said my drive was empty, but a free recovery tool found 104,000 photos inside it

This specific drive held my family pictures from about a decade ago. So when I got the "You need to format the disk before you use it" message, I started panicking. But with one free tool and about 90 minutes spent in uncertainty, I recovered 104,754 files. I realized the drive wasn't empty just because Windows says it is.
