Android's backup storage warnings are scarier than the reality — I dug in to see for myself

All the articles I've read about Google's new Android backup rule say the same thing: the new backup data will pull in 40MB on average. While that isn't a ton of space taken up on my phone, I decided to check my own Pixel 9 to see how much storage backing up my SMS messages, call history, and device settings would add to my total.
