Microsoft shifts Copilot to in-house MAI models to reduce third-party costs

Microsoft has begun replacing third-party AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic with its proprietary MAI models across several productivity applications. These in-house models are currently processing tens of thousands of weekly requests within Excel and Outlook, marking a transition from testing to real-world workloads.
