External GPUs can be a bit of a finicky mess. Even more so if you’re running them over USB 4 or Thunderbolt. These basically operate over externally connected PCIe lanes (albeit with much lower bandwidth), which means you could technically run any manner of PCIe device over an appropriate slot on your motherboard.
