Instead of letting its voters freely choose their preferred candidates, the Democratic Party has waded into several primary races in key general-election battleground districts. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee this week selected eight new House candidates eligible for additional campaign money as part of the “Red to Blue” fund for seats the party believes it can flip during the general election. But more than half of those candidates are still part of active, hotly-contested primary battles — meaning the DCCC is putting its thumb on the scale before Democratic voters get a chance to weigh in.
🗳️ For example, in California’s 22nd district, the DCCC has backed state lawmaker Jasmeet Bains over progressive outsider Randy Villegas, despite Villegas’ endorsement by the Congressional Progressive and Hispanic Caucuses.
