I loved using powered speakers for their simplicity — I didn't have to deal with stripping speaker wire or fighting with spring-clip terminals. Powered speakers usually accept basic RCA connectors instead, making cable runs seamless. Eventually, as I outgrew my modest set of Edifier powered speakers, I ended up building a home audio system with multiple sets of passive speakers and a dedicated AV receiver. For well over a year, I struggled with the spring-clip terminals on my STR-DH190 receiver and bare speaker wire. That all changed when I moved to a Dolby Atmos receiver with five-way binding post terminals for connecting to speaker channels.
